In this course, Are Faith & Science Compatible?, you’ll discover through the lens of history, epistemology (how we know what we know), and theology that faith and science complement each other in surprising ways that help us better understand God and the natural world around us.
Are you looking to understand the complex (yet complementary) relationship between faith and science? You may be surprised that it starts with a question about the nature of knowledge: “How do we know what we know?” It also requires a dive into history, where you’ll uncover surprising ways that biblical truths were necessary for the development of modern science and how science and nature have helped Christians better understand God and their faith. In this course, Are Faith & Science Compatible?, you’ll explore historical and modern-day perspectives and misconceptions on their perceived conflict. Join the scholars and scientists from BioLogos as you delve into the various ways of knowing that shape both fields and examine how cultural and literary contexts of the Bible influence our understanding of Scripture in light of scientific discoveries. You'll also have the opportunity to apply key concepts from this intersection to address real-world issues. This in-depth course will empower you to engage thoughtfully and critically with deep questions about your faith and the world, whether in a classroom, at a pulpit, or in a lab.
Please note: While this can be taken as a stand-alone course, it does follow our shorter introductory course, Where to Start: Faith & Science, and dives deeper into the ideas presented in that material.
