About This Course

Reaching your city with the gospel is about joining our missionary God to learn about and love your city’s unique personality and needs. In this Reaching Your City course, you’ll discover how to discern which people and opportunities God has been preparing in your context and how to apply biblical principles of contextualization to shape your practice of embodying the gospel. You’ll develop a set of practices to help you better understand the community you are in, which will enable you to respond to its needs both directly and through understanding your leadership style and social location.


Learning Outcomes

  • Articulate the benefits and importance of identifying the cultural contexts of your church plant and the people you desire to reach with the gospel
  • List the defining aspects of a city’s context and collect the information for your city
  • Identify the cultural rhythms and sensibilities of your particular community and develop a contextualization plan to navigate it as an insider

Len Tang

Church Planter Program Director, M.Div

Len is the Church Planting Program director at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is married to Amy and they have three boys. Len received a B.S. from UC Berkeley and an MDiv from Fuller Seminary. He has planted two churches: Cedar Creek Church in 2004 outside of Portland, Oregon, and Missio Community Church in 2018 in Pasadena, California.

Johnny Ramirez-Johnson

Professor of Anthropology, M.Ed., Ed.D.

Johnny is professor of Anthropology at Fuller Theological Seminary and serves on the Advisory Board of Fuller’s Church Planting Program. Johnny received a B.A. from Antillean College in Puerto Rico, a M.A. from Andrews University, and both a M.Ed. and an Ed.D. from Harvard University. He is married to Clara, and they have three grown children and 3 grandchildren.
