About This Course

Theology is the foundation of both our ministry work and our Christian lives. But what is theology, exactly? In this Understanding & Applying Theology: The Brehm Method for Artists and Ministry Leaders course, you’ll learn what theology is and what aspects of our lives and experiences shape our theology and that of others, especially through the lens of an artist. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of your theological orientation and be able to articulate and apply it through different case studies that look at both daily life and bigger theological questions. Through this course, you’ll create a working model for your theology with the arts and culture and a growing understanding of how that bears upon your interpretation of different topics, such as women in ministry, vocation, atonement, and God in the world.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe ways that culture and the arts might serve as resources for doing theology
  • Define what theology is and what aspects of arts and culture shape our theology and the theology of others
  • Articulate your own theological orientation/frameworks and apply it to the arts and other cultural products
  • Analyze the theological interpretation of others and begin to describe their frameworks
  • Create a working model for your own theological engagement with the arts and a growing understanding of how that bears upon your interpretation of different topics
